DraftSight V1R5 has been released and its Linux version has some significant changes.
Most important of all is the change of the package name and the new locations of files and folders.
- This version installs in different location and with different name. So if you want to upgrade a current installation you have to remove with your package manager the dassault-systemes-draftsight package otherwise you will have both versions installed concurrently. The new version's package name is " draftsight" or "draftsight:i386" if you use it on a 64bit system.
- The new directory for DraftSight's installation is /opt/dassault-systemes/DraftSight
-The new path for DraftSight's executable is /opt/dassault-systemes/DraftSight/Linux/DraftSight. The /usr/bin/draftsight link has been removed so if you want to launch it from terminal you have to type the full path to the executable.
- User Settings are now under the ~/.config/DraftSight directory so the program cannot detect automatically your previous settings.
- New conflict in dependencies on a 64bit Ubuntu system. In order to install it successfully on a 64 bit Ubuntu system you have to edit the installer and remove xdg-utils from the list of dependencies. The problem with libdirectfb no longer exists. If you don't edit the installer the package will be marked as broken and it will cause problems to your package manager.
- This new version much more smaller than the previous versions. Installed requires only 298Mb of disk space instead of 789Mb for the previous version. The .deb installer is smaller too (only 107Mb instead of 289Mb).
- Mouse Gestures now work on Linux too.
- Support for .dws (standards) files has been added.
- Extrude is no longer broken.

DraftSight V1R5 installed on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit.
HELLO
ReplyDeleteI use DraftSight since 2011.
My ubuntu is 12:04.
The new version did not open some drawings, the program reported that they did not exist. Had to go back in the old version.
I live in Brazil and work with projects and designs.
bye
This new version comes with one major bug.
DeleteIt cannot open files which have non-English characters in their names.
The only workaround is to rename your files and use only English characters

ReplyDeleteI have some problems with the Aliases. I tryed to load my own file, and the personalized Aliases show up in the list, but as I click on apply, the list disappear. Now I can't have my Aliases and I can't load the standard ones either ... some ideas how to solve this?

Do you know something about text export to pdf?
ReplyDeleteI always get text like a path.
Install cups-pdf and print the document to pdf instead of exporting it.
DeleteI have just installed it and it says that cant open the specified file.
ReplyDeleteManaged to install OK after installing libgtk2.0-0:i386 but now it doesn't run. Nothing in the log files indicates why.
DeleteUnder Ubuntu 13.10, after removing xdg-utils from the dependencies, I installed the following libraries:
ReplyDeletelibgtk2.0-0:i386
libstdc++6:i386
libGL1:i386
libGLU1:i386
DraftSight installed and runs from Unity.
Hi, I hope that you can help me:
ReplyDeleteI installed and run Draftsight fine (14.04 LTS 32bit), but it keeps asking for activation each time I open it!
Plus, as Spyros M. said, it does not recognize any non-latin letters so if the file path contains any non-latin characters, it pops up a message that the file cannot be found (so, I have to rename most of my drawings before I open them)...
Any help?
This version cannot open a file in a path with at list one non-standard character in any place (incl. any folder!!!). If You use localized Linux version You need to find (create) some write-access path with only Latin characters or digits. Before editing Your file MUST be moved to this folder. After editing You MUST move it back to prevent loose. You maybe bored but I hope new version will not contain the bug.
ReplyDeleteTo open a file from a flash drive directly Your username, the drive label and path to the file in the drive must contain only Latin chars or digits.
No problem loading linux DraftSight V1R5, but after starting and loading dwg-file the cursor is kind of slow dragging and selection works but does not show or highlight selection, so its rather useless. I had to go back to previus version V1R4. Works smoothly. Btw, my Linux is CrunchBang Waldorf up to date.
ReplyDeleteNo problem installing in Ubuntu 14.04 64bit, downloaded from Draftsight home page.
ReplyDeleteAlso I can confirm Viktor post, that file path must contain only standard characters, otherwise the message appears- Cannot open the specified drawing file. Verify that the file exists. Can be very annoying for non-english people, who use their language characters in folder names.
How to solve slow Draftsight in Ubuntu 15.10 with intel card?
